Receiving the memorial on Khoshut Lajang Khan's deposing Tshangs dbyangs rgya mtsho and appointing Ye shes rgya mtsho as the sixth Dalai Lama, considering the situation at the time and with concerning the stability of Tibetan society, Emperor Kangxi agreed Lajang Khan's request and conferred Ye shes rgya mtsho the title of sixth Dalai Lama and the golden seal. This is the imperial edit to the fifth Panchen Erdeni for conferring Ye shes rgya mtsho as the sixth Dalai Lama and conferring album and other affairs by Emperor Kangxi. (Rinchen Dolma)

Emperor Kangxi sent an edict to Panchen Hutukutu, saying “I would like to express my best regards to you as you have been working so hard to deliver wellbeing to all living creatures and prosper Buddhism. With grace of the Providence, I hope you are doing fine. As the Sovereign, I expect all living creatures in this world to lead a happy life. I would make greater efforts to spread Buddhist doctrines in the hope of perpetual prosperity of the religion. Panchen Hutukutu sent me a memorial asking me to affirm and enthrone Dalai Lama as stated in his previous letter. Dalai Lama is expected to be benevolent to all Lamas in Tibetan temples and return Kamu to its former owners, which will be greatly appreciated. This edict is to confer the title of Dalai Lama and the official seal to him. And you are kindly requested to obey what Langzang Khan has asked for so that Buddhists and believers can be showered with the grace from the Emperor, etc.. In the memorial presented by Langzang Khan, Dalai Lama would be verified by Panchen and Lamu Chokyong (Dharmapalas). As it was the previous-life enthronement, the conferring of the title (Dalai Lama) and the official seal was postponed, etc. We know that His Majesty is meticulous in handling this matter. However, as this religion has developed with the grace of His Majesty, if the title of Dalai Lama isn't conferred as soon as possible, there will be more skeptics than ardent believers. If that is the case, things would become hard to forecast as defies are sure to incite rebellions. If the legitimacy of Dalai Lama is verified earlier, the religion can be revitalized earlier and believers can enjoy peace earlier. If he is conferred the title by His Majesty, it will be beneficial to his study of Buddhist scriptures and deliver infinite benefits to all living creatures. Lamas of Ganden Monastery, Sera Monastery and Drepung Monastery also pleaded for conferring of the Sixth Dalai Lama. Previously, I ordered to enthrone Khubilghan in Kamu to be Dalai Lama. But, as he was too young to be familiar with Buddhist scriptures and rituals, the conferring was postponing. I meant to wait several years before making the final decision. Now that Panchen Hutukutu appealed to confer the title and the official seal of Dalai Lama so as to share the grace of the Providence among the believers. I hereby would like to confer Khubilghan as the Sixth Dalai Lama and grant the official seal. I hereby consign the Imperial Edict to your envoy Geleikezhongnaiermai. In addition to the imperial edit, he will bring the rewards as follows: 1 silver tea bucket (150 g), 1 silver kettle, 1 silver wine cup, 10 big Hadas, 10 small Hadas, 12 bolts of silks and satins.
