In 1855, upon the eleventh Dalai Lama passing away, Emperor Xianfeng ordered the Reting Hutuktu (Rwa sgreng Hutuktu) to act as the regent, and took in charge of searching for the reincarnated soul boys. Approved by the Emperor, the candidate soul boys were greeted into Lhasa and passed through the Amban's inspection and was reported to the Emperor for carrying out the drawing lots on the selected auspicious day. This is the Imperial Edit from Emperor Daoguang to the cabinet to order the Amban to recognize the eleventh Dalai Lama's reincarnated soul boy by the drawing lots after the Emperor receiving the Amban Manqing's memorial requesting for the drawing lots.
